The Fire Safety (FSE) division of Exova Warrigntonfire has secured a research contract on the spread of fire in apartment buildings under the Department of Communities and Local Government Framework Contract (CLG)

CLG has commissioned Exova Warringtonfire to carry out the research following several recent cases where fires have spread through roof voids, despite compartmentation being provided in those areas. Fire spread not only puts the building occupants at risk, but also suggests that current prevention guidance is not appropriate

The research will include a review of current building practices and the detail of compartmentation presently being used by the buildiing industry, as well as analysing actual case studies where fire has spread through roof voids and making recommendations to potential changes to the present building regulations in this area.

Exova Warringtonfire will working closely with Framework Consortium Members and Approved Inspectors, Butler and Young to deliver the research project by April 2010
