Timber Fire Doors
requirements for doorsets
The Warringtonfire mideast certification scheme for doorsets, made of either timber or steel based constructions, regulates the installation of doorsets used to protect openings in walls and floors against the spread of fire and smoke within buildings.
The fire performance of the doorsets is tested in accordance with either BS 476: Part 22 or EN 1634-1 and they then may be assessed using agreed rules to interpolate or extrapolate the information to provide a final scope for the doorsets.
The certification scheme requires that records are kept of the manufacture and that the manufacture is based upon a tested/assessed construction. It is not possible to provide a listing without test evidence and without an inspection of the manufacturing site showing that the tested construction is used as the basis for manufacture.
The application of a uniquely numbered label is also a requirement of the certification scheme. These labels are available exclusively from Warringtonfire and the records of each certification will be maintained to provide traceability to the manufacturer’s records. These will be inspected regularly to ensure products are correctly labelled. Incorrect labelling will result in a manufacturer being de-listed and the authorities informed accordingly. Labels can only be applied by the manufacturer at the site of manufacture or by a Warringtonfire Authorised Person.
Only labelled fire resisting doorsets shall be supplied. The doorsets can only be labelled if supplied with the correct associated building hardware and glazing systems. It is important that the hardware and all other items used within the manufacture of the doorset are compatible and will contribute effectively to the fire resistance of the doorset. The scope of the certification will provide the information on what is acceptable to be used with each particular doorset. The labelling does not cover the installation nor on-going maintenance of the doorset.
Ongoing requirements
Building owners are required to have their rolling and sliding fire doors inspected and tested annually, and to maintain written documentation of such inspections.
All labels must be retained and should not be overpainted or obscured in any way.
