Sydney Metro – Brief Introduction

The Australian division of Exova Warringtonfire recently won a contract for carrying out the concept fire safety design of a new underground metro railway system in Sydney consisting of seven new stations, approximately 7km of new tunnels and a depot containing maintenance facilities and the main control centre for the network

Fire safety on underground railways is quite a specialist problem, because it combines potential fire risk (trains) and large numbers of people in an underground location. However, this is a particular area of expertise of Exova Warringtonfire, and we have been responsible for fire safety design of railway systems throughout the world.

The Australian division were therefore able to call on the expertise of our international divisions to help provide extra resources to cope with the short timescale of the project, as well as making sure that the design took into account the most modern and up-to-date fire safety approaches from all parts of the world.

This is just one example of the many situations where we use our international offices, based in the UK, Middle East, Far East and Australia, to provide expert fire safety support, solving complex design problems, meeting local fire safety requirements in the most cost effective way possible, whilst also meeting extremely tight deadlines.
