Our priority is to ensure that our fire engineers provide the highest level of expert support to ensure high levels of fire safety, whilst also allowing the designers and occupiers the freedom to use the building to suit their particular needs.

Every fire engineer we employ either has a degree or PhD in engineering (or other similar qualification) combined with years of experience in dealing with varying building types throughout the world.

Fire Engineering Techniques

There is a wide range of standard guidance on how to design buildings to be safe from fire. Some of these documents can be relatively complex or may have a range of possible approaches. We are experts in this area, so we can identify the best guidance document or approach and can assist in developing the fire strategy to meet those regulations.

In some cases the design would also benefit from more detailed fire modelling to support or justify certain aspects to the design. For example, smoke modelling might demonstrate that a particular space will remain tenable for a long period of time, which would help justifiy longer travel distances than would normally be allowed. Incorporating smoke extraction within a design may also achieve a similar result.

Our fire engineers are experts in all types of fire modelling, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) smoke modelling, evacuation analysees, structural fire engineering and radiation analysis. We can therefore identify the best approach for any particular situation.

Global Approach

Design teams and clients are becoming increasingly global in their approach, with designers located in one country developing designs for buildings on the other side of the world.

We know the regulations and have well established contacts within the fire authorities in each of these areas, so we are well placed to provide support to the design team and to ensure that our fire safety gains the approval of the authorities to the design, anywhere in the world.

Building Types

Most of the fundamental principles of fire safety are the same irrespective of the type of building. Smoke behaves the same way whether its in a shopping centre or railway station. However, the specific guidance documents, legislation and overall approach to fire safety can vary between different types of buildings. So when developing a fire strategy design it is important that the fire engineer has experience of that type of building
