Rail Fire Testing
As countries around the world take on the challenge of providing a greener transport system to move their ever growing populations, they are increasingly looking at establishing new rail networks, or modernising and expanding their existing systems.
Typically, well established rail sector fire regulations take a holistic view between the requirements of the rolling stock and that of the infrastructure (i.e. tunnels, stations, etc.). Fire safety strategy designers use these design standards and code of practices as a guide to balance preventative measures with active fire fighting and containment systems to ensure life safety objectives are met, as well as others, like business continuity.
With an ever wider range of systems and products entering this sector to meet demand, a consistent approach in intrinsic fire prevention and the design performance of active fire protection measures must be maintained. Rail network operators must ensure that both rolling stock and tunnel/station specifications are of consistent performance levels, and that standards and performance levels have not been mixed and matched according to the previous experience of their appointed design consultants and product suppliers.
