Fire Risk Assessors Certification Scheme

Warrington Certification Limited (WCL) in partnership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), operate an independent third party competent persons scheme in accordance with ISO/IEC 17024:2003. The scheme is called the Fire Risk Assesors Certification Scheme and has just been accredited by UKAS.

The scheme has been designed to allow risk assessors to prove; through third party certification, their competence to complete fire risk assessments as required by the Regulatory Reform Order (RRO).

The WCL register of competent fire risk assessors provides a valuable reference for the ‘responsible person’, building owners/occupiers, or employers who need to commission a fire risk assessment. To view the register, click on the link on sub-section on the right.

Fire risk assessors who have completed the comprehensive technical evaluation successfully and achieved certification are considered competent to produce risk assessments that are ‘suitable and sufficient’ for the purposes of the RRO.

The scheme comprises several strictly controlled quality checks:

Detailed CV

Assessors submit a detailed CV along with examples of previous work This portfolio of evidence is then subject to a desk top review to verify the validity and quality of the evidence provided.

Demonstration of competence

Candidates who provide portfolios that demonstrate a sufficient level of competence are invited to attend a technical interview. Candidates who successfully complete the assessment tasks and provide comprehensive/correct answers to the technical questions are certificated as competent
